According to sources, Andrew McCutchen will be returning to the Pirates on a one-year contract.

In 2017, McCutchen’s role in the centre field for the Pirates changed as Starling Marte began to establish himself in the major league and with McCutchen reaching the end of his contract with the Pirates, he was traded to the Giants for outfielder Bryan Reynolds, reliever Kyle Crick and international bonus dollars. Later that year, the Giants traded him to the Yankees. After that, McCutchen played for the Phillies and Brewers.

In the previous season, he had a batting average of .237 and an on-base percentage of .316 while playing for the Brewers.

McCutchen’s return to the Pirates comes at a time when the team is entertaining offers for Bryan Reynolds.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette was the first to report on McCutchen’s new contract with the Pirates.
